How to use Lenor detergent, softener and beads for best results

Getting your laundry right means more than just pressing a button. Using the right products in the right way makes a genuine difference to how your clothes look, feel, and smell. This guide walks you through the perfect laundry routine to leave your clothes clean, fresh, and soft, wash after wash. Used together, Lenor products deliver a result that no single product can achieve alone.

Our perfect laundry routine: step by step
Follow these steps every wash to get the best from your products and the best care for your clothes.
- Sort your laundry: before you start, sort your laundry by colour (whites, lights, darks), fabric type (cottons, delicates, sportswear), and level of soiling. This can help prevent colour transfer and contribute to ensuring each garment gets the right type of care.
- Check the care labels: always check the clothing care labels for guidance on the correct temperature and wash cycle. Ignoring them risks shrinkage, colour loss, or fabric damage.
- Add your detergent: where to add detergent depends on which product you use. If you are using a single unit dose form such as Lenor PODS®, it can be directly added to the empty washing machine drum.
- Add your desired amount of Lenor scent beads to the empty drum: you can adjust the amount to control the fragrance intensity; use a little for a subtle scent, or you can fill the cap for a more powerful freshness boost. Note you should never put scent beads in the dispenser drawer.
- Load your clothes: place clothes in the drum, on top of the beads. Avoid overfilling; you should be able to fit a hand vertically between the top of the laundry and the drum to ensure water and products can circulate freely for more effective cleaning and freshening.
- Add Lenor fabric softener: Use the dosing cap provided with the bottle to add it to the dedicated fabric conditioner compartment of your machine's drawer (normally the smallest slot, often marked with a flower symbol). The correct dose depends on your load size and preferred level of freshness and softness.
- Select the desired cycle and temperature for the load based on the care labels: Lenor products are designed to be effective even in cold and short cycles.
- Remove and dry clothes promptly: to prevent damp smells from developing. Dry clothes completely before folding and storing.
Washing different fabric types
Lenor fabric softener can be used for most everyday items (e.g., cotton t-shirts), delicates (e.g., silk, lingerie, knitwear), and towels. For technical fabrics (e.g., sportswear), it’s best to refer to the garment’s care instructions. Lenor scent beads do not contain softening actives and so they are compatible with all machine-washable fabrics.
FAQs
What is the difference between Lenor fabric softener and Lenor scent beads?
They are two distinct products designed to work together. Each has a different primary role:
- Lenor fabric softener delivers long lasting freshness, softness, and clothes protection.
- Lenor scent beads provide boosted freshness. Learn more about the Lenor scent beads and why you should use them here [What are scent beads and why should I use them?].
Can I use Lenor products in cold or quick wash cycles?
Yes, both Lenor fabric softener and Lenor scent beads are formulated to dissolve and perform effectively in energy saving cycles (cold and quick).
Why should I avoid overfilling the drum?
Overfilling the drum limits how freely water and products can circulate through your clothes. This reduces cleaning effectiveness, limits the distribution of softener and scent beads, and can lead to poorer freshness results.
